What diamond grading system do you use?
Typically we use an in-house system to help reduce costs to the customer, but we base it on GIA grading standards to meet the highest industry standards.
How do the "Four Cs" work?
The "Four Cs" are a system developed by the GIA to grade diamonds. They stand for Carat weight, Cut, Color, and Clarity. Carat weight measures the size and weight, Cut relates to how well it's shaped and faceted, Color assesses its lack of color, and Clarity evaluates the presence of inclusions and blemishes. Each C determines the diamond's quality, beauty, and value, and they all play a crucial role in purchasing decisions.
What are the 4Cs of diamond quality?
The 4Cs of diamond quality are Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat weight. These are the internationally recognized standards used to evaluate and describe the characteristics of a diamond. Here's a brief explanation of each:
Cut: The cut of a diamond refers to how well it has been shaped, faceted, and proportioned. It affects the diamond's brilliance, sparkle, and overall beauty. A well-cut diamond allows light to reflect and refract effectively, maximizing its sparkle. Cut grades include Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, and Poor.
Color: Diamond color refers to the presence of any noticeable hue or tint within the stone. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) grades diamonds on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown). The closer a diamond is to colorless, the higher its value. However, diamonds in the near-colorless range (G to J) often appear white to the naked eye.
Clarity: Clarity measures the presence of internal and external characteristics or flaws, known as inclusions and blemishes, respectively. The GIA clarity scale ranges from Flawless (no inclusions or blemishes visible under 10x magnification) to Included (inclusions visible to the naked eye). Most diamonds fall within the range of slightly included (SI1 and SI2) to very slightly included (VS1 and VS2), where the inclusions are typically not visible to the naked eye.
Carat weight: Carat weight refers to the size of the diamond, specifically its weight. One carat is equivalent to 200 milligrams. Larger diamonds are rarer and can be more valuable, but it's important to consider all the 4Cs together. A well-cut diamond can appear larger than a poorly cut one of the same carat weight.
Considering the 4Cs in combination is crucial when selecting a diamond, as they all influence the overall quality and appearance of the stone. It's essential to find the right balance based on personal preferences and budget.
What does it mean "cut" mean for diamonds?
The term "cut," in regards to diamonds, refers to how well it has been shaped and faceted. Proper cutting maximizes the diamond's brilliance, sparkle, and overall visual appeal. A diamond's cut is evaluated through four factors, including proportions, symmetry, polish, and brilliance, fire, and scintillation. The GIA grades diamond cut quality on a scale from Excellent to Poor, thereby helping buyers understand its worth. Although color and clarity are essential to a diamond's appearance, a well-cut diamond will impact its overall value. Therefore, selecting a well-cut diamond is crucial to ensure its optimal beauty and sparkle.

What does "eye clean" mean?
"Eye clean" is a term used in the diamond industry to describe a diamond with no visible inclusions or blemishes to the naked eye under normal viewing conditions. The diamond clarity scale ranges from Flawless (no visible inclusions) to Included (visible inclusions). Usually, a diamond considered "eye clean" has a clarity grade of VS or higher. However, the term is subjective, and an expert should assess the diamond in person or through detailed images or videos before making a purchase decision.
Do white gold rings turn yellow?
Yes, it is possible for white gold rings to turn yellow over time. White gold is created by alloying yellow gold with other metals, such as silver, palladium, or nickel. The resulting alloy is then plated with rhodium, a white and reflective metal, to give it a bright white appearance. However, the rhodium plating on white gold rings can wear off over time due to normal wear and tear, exposing the underlying yellowish hue of the alloy. This can cause the ring to appear yellowish or slightly off-white. The frequency of rhodium plating maintenance depends on various factors such as the wearer's body chemistry, daily activities, and how often the ring is worn. Typically, white gold rings may require re-plating every 1-3 years to maintain their bright white appearance. It's important to note that this yellowing is a surface issue and does not affect the structural integrity of the ring. Re-plating the ring with rhodium can restore its original white appearance. If you notice that your white gold ring is turning yellow, it's recommended to take it to a professional jeweler for rhodium re-plating. They can clean and re-plate the ring, bringing back its bright white shine. Regular cleaning and maintenance can help you keep your white gold ring looking its best over time.
What are conflict free diamonds?
Conflict-free diamonds, also known as ethically sourced diamonds, are diamonds that are mined and traded in a manner that does not contribute to or support conflict, human rights abuses, or environmental harm. The term "conflict-free" specifically refers to diamonds that are not associated with the funding of armed conflict, particularly in regions where diamond mining has been linked to civil wars or human rights violations. The diamond industry has taken steps to address this issue through the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). The KPCS is an international initiative established in 2003 that aims to prevent the trade of conflict diamonds. It requires diamond-producing countries to implement measures to ensure that diamonds are mined and traded in a responsible and ethical manner. To be considered conflict-free, diamonds must be accompanied by a Kimberley Process certificate, which verifies that they have been sourced and traded through legitimate channels. This certification ensures that the diamonds have not been used to finance armed conflicts. Furthermore, many jewelers and diamond suppliers have implemented additional ethical sourcing policies and certifications beyond the Kimberley Process. These include responsible mining practices, fair labor standards, and environmental sustainability. When purchasing a diamond, especially an engagement ring, it's important to inquire about the diamond's origin and ensure that it is certified as conflict-free. Reputable jewelers will be transparent about their sourcing practices and provide guarantees regarding the ethical nature of their diamonds. By choosing conflict-free diamonds, consumers can support ethical practices within the diamond industry and contribute to positive social and environmental impact.
